Are you interested in training for your Bronze Medallion?
Clovelly SLSC has a squad starting training October 4th aiming for the exams in late November/early December.
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge of basic patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations.
The course runs for approximately 8 weeks with training twice weekly, one theory session and one practical session culminating in 2 exams, one theory and one practical.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum 15 years of age on date of final assessment.
• Swim 400m in 9 minutes.
Contact Us Surf Rescue Certificate
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge of basic patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in basic lifesaving operations. This course is also the minimum water safety qualification for Junior Activity supervision.
The course runs for 6-8 weeks with training twice a week culminating in 2 exams, one theory and one practical.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum 13 years of age on date of final assessment.
• Swim 200m in 5 minutes
Next course;
• October 2009 for exams in December 2009.

Bronze Medallion/Certification 2 in Publis Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge of basic patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations.
The course runs for approximately 8 weeks with training twice weekly, one theory session and one practical session culminating in 2 exams, one theory and one practical.

• Minimum 15 years of age on date of final assessment.

• February 2010 for exams in April 2010.
Contact Us Radio Operator Certificate
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to perform basic communication practices. The course is run over one session lasting approximately 3 hours. Assessment is made at the conclusion of the session by demonstration of required knowledge and skill.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 13 years of age on date of final assessment.

Advanced Resusitation Certificate
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge of advanced resuscitation techniques including the use of oxygen. The course lasts for 4 weeks with training twice a week in both theory and practical skills of resuscitation.

• Minimum of 15 years of age on date of final assessment.

Defibrillator Certicate
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and application using advanced life support techniques with a semi-automatic external defibrillator.
The course lasts for 3 hours in one session both theory and practical.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 15 years of age on date of final assessment.

Contact Us Spinal Management Certificate
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to manage injured casualties with suspected spinal injuries in an aquatic environment and in emergency situations. The course is held over one day taking approximately 3 hours involving both theory and practical work (you will get wet).
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 16 years of age on date of final assessment.

• Saturday November 28th at North Cronulla commencing at 10am registrations
close November 2nd or when full.
• Saturday December 5th at Bondi SLSC commencing at 10am.
• Saturday January 23rd at a venue to be announced commencing at 9am.
Senior First Aid
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively administer first aid. The course duration is either in one day long session or divided into 2 shorter sessions. There is a practical assessment during the course and a multiple choice question paper.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 15 years of age on the date of final assessment.

• Saturday March 6th at South Maroubra SLSC commencing at 9am.
IRB Crew
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively crew an IRB in surf rescue operations.
The course takes approximately 3 weeks training twice a week with a combination of theory and practical work.
An exam will be held at the end of the course consisting of a multiple choice paper, verbal questions and a practical exam on a surf beach.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 15 years of age on date of final assessment.
• Hold a current Bronze Medallion Award/Certificate 2 in Public Safety
(Aquatic Rescue) and be proficient in that award.

Silver Medallion IRB Diver
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively drive and manage an IRB in surf rescue operations. The course takes approximately 12 weeks with training at least once a week sometimes twice a week depending on surf conditions and is mostly practical training.
An exam will be held at the end of the course consisting of a multiple choice paper, verbal questions and a practical demonstration of driving skills at a surf beach.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 17 years of age on date of final assessment.
• Hold a current Bronze Medallion Award/Certificate 2 in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) and be proficient in that award.
• Hold a current IRB Crew Certificate.
• Preferably hold a NSW waterways licence. Those who do not hold a NSW waterways licence are required to gain a conditional SLSA boat licence before commencing practical training.

Rescue Water Craft Operators Certificate
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively drive and manage a RWC in lifesaving operations. Training takes place one a week with the course lasting for approximately 12 weeks depending on surf conditions culminating in an exam involving theory questions, a multiple choice and short response question paper as well as a practical exam at a surf beach.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 18 years of age on the date if final assessment.
• Hold a current Bronze Medallion/Certificate 2 in Public Safety (Aquatic rescue) and be proficient in that award.
• Hold a current Silver Medallion Patrol Captain/Basic Beach Management.
• Hold a current Silver Medallion Advanced Emergency Care.
• Hold a current NSW Maritime General Boat License and Personal Watercraft License or SLSA conditional equivalent.
• Hold a vehicle license with tow capability.
• It is also highly preferable that a current Silver Medallion IRB driver’s award is held.

• Numbers dictate next course dates and once a suitable number of candidates have expressed an interest in the course training will commence with the course being run by the support operations team.
Silver Medallion Basic Beach Management
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and experience to manage a beach in emergency and non emergency situations. It is for those that are interested in the roles of patrol vice captain and patrol captain. This award is a requirement to being able to assume the role of patrol captain. The course is run over 2 evenings lasting 3 hours each evening which is all theory work.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 17 years of age on date of final assessment.
• Hold a Bronze Medallion Award/Certificate 2 in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue).
• Be proficient in a current SLSA award such as the Bronze Medallion/Certificate 2 in
Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue), Advanced Resuscitation Certificate or the Radio
Operators certificate.

Silver Medallion Advanced Emergency Care
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to manage multifaceted emergency situations in an advanced manner. The course is theory work over 2 evenings lasting for 3 hours each evening.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 17 years of age.
• Hold a current senior first aid certificate.
• Hold a current Defib certificate.
• Hold a current ARC certificate.
Next course;
• Monday January 18th and Wednesday January 20th at Maroubra SLSC
commencing at 6.30pm.
• Monday February 22nd and Wednesday February 24th at a venue to be confirmed
commencing at 6.30pm.
Gold Medallion
The aim of this course is to provide participants with advanced skills and knowledge to manage emergency situations in autonomous situations. The training is quite intense and is not for the faint hearted.
Pre requisites;
• Be a minimum of 18 years of age on the date of final assessment.
• Hold a current SLSA Bronze Medallion/Certificate 2 in Public Safety (Aquatic
Rescue) and be proficient in that award.
• Hold a current Advanced Resuscitation Certificate.
• Hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate.
• Hold a current Silver Medallion Basic Beach Management.
• Hold a current Silver Medallion Advanced Emergency Care.
• Complete an 800 metre swim in 14 minutes or less in a swimming pool of not less
than 25 metres.
Next exam date;
• Saturday January 30th at South Maroubra SLSC commencing at 9am.
Off Shore Rescue Boat Crew
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively crew the ORB in surf rescue operations. The course involves training once a week and also on patrol training with a practical exam once candidates are ready to pass.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 16 years of age on the date of final assessment.
• Hold a current Bronze Medallion Award/Certificate 2 in Public Safety (Aquatic
Rescue) and be proficient in that award.
• Hold a current ARC Certificate.
• Hold a current Defib Certificate.
• Preferably hold a current Spinal Management Award.

V.H.F Marine Radio Licence
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to perform communication practices using a V.H.F Radio. For those interested in helping out at surfcom or are currently crew on an off shore rescue boat wishing to make the step up to drivers. The course involves a 3 hour workshop followed by an assessment paper expected to take 1- 1.5 hours.

Trainers Certificate
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and experience to deliver quality training of SLS awards. The course is run over 3 evenings lasting approximately 3 hours each evening combined with on the job training (you assist an experienced instructor in taking a squad).
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 16 years of age
• Have held the Award you wish to train for a minimum of a year however recognition
of prior learning is taken into consideration on individual cases.
• Preferably hold ARC and Defib certificates.

Assessors Certificate
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and experience to competently assess SLS awards. The course is held over 4 evenings of approximately 3 hours each evening.
Pre requisites;
• Minimum of 18 years of age.
• Have held the award you wish to assess for a minimum of one year however
recognition of prior learning is taken into consideration on individual cases.
• Preferably hold a current Trainers Award, Defib certificate and ARC certificate.
